NO SHOREDITCH carnival & CAR FREE DAY 2006 Once again there's no event this year - sorry to disappoint you!

The Hackney group of the London Cycling Campaign ran the first car-free day in Curtain Road, Shoreditch's central boulevard, in September 2001. In 2002 we rested while the highways people changed Shoreditch High Street, Old Street and Great Eastern Street back to two-way for us.

We came back in 2003, strengthened by new partners Rawbeats and Dr Agon Productions, to promote the first Shoreditch Carnival of the 21st century, making all 19 streets inside the Shoreditch Triangle delightfully motor-free for a day.

In 2004 we repeated the success of London's coolest car-free carnival, drawing thousands more locals and visitors to a day of fun and friendliness themed with the message of sustainable travel and liveable streets.

In 2005 and 2006 we were hoping to bring you further events, but unfortunately the key volunteers have not been able to commit the necessary months of full-time unpaid work. The Carnival therefore continues to 'rest', but we hope to be back with more car-free events in the future.
